is vaping bad for working out

You should never vape during or immediately after a workout because the nicotine will constrict the blood vessels and prevent you from getting the most out of your workout. Allow for roughly a half hour to an hour after a workout to let the body cool down before picking up the vape and giving it a puff.

Both smoking and vaping deliver nicotine to your system, and the more you absorb, the greater the potential increase in your heart rate and blood pressure. In this way, either action will have a detrimental effect on your performance and could compromise your health if regularly combined with intense exercise.Feb 18, 2022

i was wondering if any of u have any issues working out? i was a pretty heavy cigarette smoker and it really beat my lungs up. it would be such a task for me to run and work out.

Bullette the Cowdog Ultra Member ECF Veteran

I'm a swimmer. Able to hold my breath longer. Of course I don't chain vape prior to my workout.

Kemosabe Vaping Master ECF Veteran

chain vaping does not give me heavy lungs. at all. maybe you have a sensitivity to PG or VG.

RedForeman Super Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

I pretty much have to be on the PV non-stop right until walking into the gym for that to be a problem, and even then it's not that bad. If I put it down more often in the hour or so before, there's no problem. Give it some time if you just stopped smoking.

With nicotine being a vasoconstrictor and a stimulant it doesn't make good for high heart rate workouts. Muscles are starving for oxygen and the circulatory system is having trouble keeping up. Your body thinks you need more oxygen, so you beath harder, but what you really need is better circulation.

So ive been working out for about 6 years. Ive been vaping no more than 3 months. A couple weeks ago i noticed what felt like either dehydration or minor cramping/tightness in certain muscles in my body.

Weizenheimer Super Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

I lift and do no formal cardio, but I have not noticed this myself in the last 8 months. I stretch for a few minutes post workout. I vape ~50/50 pg/vg blend. You could always try vaping 100% VG for awhile and if it doesn't go away try 100% PG. If it still doesn't go away maybe do some bloodwork?

oxidus Senior Member ECF Veteran

Could it be the nicotine? Try vaping 0mg before and after working out. I have no idea if it'll work, but I'm curious if you notice a difference. Or just don't vape before and after...Just long enough that the blood vessels won't be constricted.

bholcomb22 Super Member Verified Member

I'm glad you posted this. I quit cigs cold turkey 2 years ago for nine months, and I felt a lot better working out then. (I've been lifting for several years). I got back on cigs and continued working out after that, and obviously it was harder, and I had a lot of shortness of breath while lifting.

mistike Super Member Verified Member ECF Veteran

It's obviously not going to be as good as if you didn't smoke or vape at all. You're drinking enough water - maybe too much, so pure dehydration is probably not the problem - unless you don't drink enough DURING your workouts.

It's suggested that we do not vape for 30 minutes before working out, and not vape for 30 minutes after working out.
