For temperature control, all that you need is a vaping device that supports stainless-steel coils – which almost all mods built in the last few years do – or allows you to enter a custom TCR. Compared to the other two coil materials used for temperature control vaping – nickel and titanium – stainless steel has a significantly lower TCR.

Here are some common materials used to make TC vaping coils: Stainless Steel: Generally the best option as it's readily available on the market and easy to find. Stainless steel wire is available in various grades such as 304, 316, 316L, 317, and 430.Mar 19, 2021

What is the best temperature control coil for vaping?

SS can be used in wattage or temperature control mode. Nickel 200: commonly known as ni200, it was the first temperature control coil but it’s less common now due to some vapers having sensitivities to nickel. Titanium Grade 1: otherwise known as Ti. It works well in TC but the user has to make sure it does not get overheated.

Which vape wire should I use?

This simple question will cut your work in half when choosing which wire you will vape with. Kanthal, Stainless Steel and Nichrome are the only wires (as of now) that can be used in wattage/variable wattage mode. Titanium, Ni200 (nickel) and Stainless Steel are the only wires that can be used (as of now) with Temperature Control.

How does temperature affect vape wire resistance?

When you vape with Kanthal (the most popular vape wire), that resistance value doesn’t change. That’s a particular property of Kanthal: its resistance is static regardless of its temperature. For TC vaping, you’ll use wires that have a known resistance-increase as their temperature rises.

What are the different grades of vape coils?

It comes in various grades such as 304, 316, 316L, 317, and 430 but the most common is SS316L. SS can be used in wattage or temperature control mode. Nickel 200: commonly known as ni200, it was the first temperature control coil but it’s less common now due to some vapers having sensitivities to nickel.

Is nickel good for vaping?

Nickel is a toxic metal and a known carcinogen. Which means it is classed as a dangerous material and is poisonous not just to the environment, but also to your health. Nickel vaped at high temperatures may cause the nickel to produce vapour which can be very damaging.

What is the best coil material for vaping?

For coil building, SS316L is by far the most commonly used grade, followed by SS317L. Other grades like 304 and 430 are also used sometimes, but not so often. Stainless steel is easy to form and holds its shape well.

What's the best wire for vaping?

Best Wire Type for VapingKanthal – As one of the most widely available types of coil wire, Kanthal is extremely popular. ... Stainless Steel – In contrast to Kanthal, using stainless steel provides a very quick ramp time. ... Titanium – This is one of the least used of the four that we have covered.More items...•

What resistance coil is best for flavor?

Coils With a Rating At 1.0 Ohm or Above Coils with at least 1.0 ohm resistance are designed for 'mouth-to-lung' vaping. They produce a subtle, cool vapour with intense flavour.

Are titanium coils safe?

A question vapers frequently ask is 'how long do titanium coils last? '. Although they are more expensive – titanium lasts a lot longer than any other metal, meaning you won't need to replace them anywhere near as often. These coils are also one of the safest options and not affected by rust or corrosion.

Are stainless steel coils better?

Stainless Steel Vape Coils Compared to kanthal, stainless steel has a slightly lower resistance and a slightly faster ramp-up time for a given wire gauge. Unlike some of the other non-kanthal coil materials, people generally find that stainless steel doesn't introduce any off flavors that require getting used to.

What coils are best for clouds?

The best coil build for cloud chasing vapes are:staple coil.Clapton coil.fused Clapton coil.parallel coil.twisted coil.

What type of metal is used in vape coils?

The most commonly used coils are made of alloys of iron, chromium, and aluminum or nickel and chromium.

What is the best ohms for vaping?

The standard or regular level of ohm when it comes to vaping and your clearomizer is between 2.4 and 2.8. This is by far the most common ohm range chosen by those looking for replacement coils, with the most commonly chosen being 2.5. This standard level tends to offer the most consistent level for your vape.

How do I get the best flavor from my vape?

Shake the bottle every now and then to speed up the process. Another option is to place your vape juice bottle in a sealed bag and immerse it in a container full of warm water. When the water has cooled, remove the bottle and give it a good shake. The flavour should be significantly more robust.

Is more resistance better for Vapes?

However, if you adjust the coil to a resistance higher than 2.8 Ohms, you will notice a considerable reduction in the amount of vapour and heat, because the wattage (W) is lower (approx. 4.4 Watts). This means that you should increase voltage (v) to increase wattage (W) and get a better puff.

Are higher resistance coils better?

The benefits of a higher resistance coil are much more steady battery use, a cooler vape and less vapour. This of course is all a matter of preference. If you're keen on big clouds then you can forgive draining battery life (or just keep a few spares on you).

Which is better Kanthal or Nichrome?

Kanthal has a slightly higher maximum operating temperature as well as a higher melting temperature than Nichrome, giving it a slightly longer lifespan than Nichrome. Some people claim that Kanthal wire puts off a slightly metallic taste due to the Iron composition, whereas others claim it does not.

What is the best coil build?

The best coil build for cloud chasing vapes are:staple coil.Clapton coil.fused Clapton coil.parallel coil.twisted coil.

Are ceramic vape coils better?

A ceramic coil uses ceramics to make the coils more durable, long-lasting, and even more protective against metal oxidation. Although they take longer to start than other coils, they have several advantages like no dry hits, longer lifespan, and superior flavor (although this is subjective).

Which is better fused Clapton or Clapton?

A fused Clapton is a thinner gauge wire wrapped around two or more thicker gauge cores. The multiple cores give fused Claptons a faster ramp-up time and arguably better flavor than non-fused Claptons, due to the increase in surface area.

What wires can you use to vape?

Kanthal, Stainless Steel and Nichrome are the only wires (as of now) that can be used in wattage/variable wattage mode. Titanium, Ni200 (nickel) and Stainless Steel are the only wires that can be used (as of now) with Temperature Control.

How hot can titanium dioxide get?

The good news is that Titanium Dioxide only forms in temperatures around 1,200°F (600°C). This may seem like a lot, just remember that a brightly glowing orange coil can easily exceed temperatures up to 1,300°F.

What is stainless steel wire?

Stainless Steel is composed of Chromium-Nickel-Carbon and is a highly functional metal as it can be used for both wattage mode and temperature control (if the mod supports it). 316L Stainless Steel is a Medical Grade metal that is widely growing in popularity and quickly becoming the go-to wire for temperature control devices.

What is Ni200 wire?

Ni200 is made of pure Nickel and has an extremely high temperature coefficient. This is precisely the reason why the guys at Evolv (famous for their DNA mod chips) decided to use Ni200 wire for the first Temperature Control mod. Nickel wire is very soft and springy, making it more difficult to work with when compared to Kanthal or Titanium. When wrapping Nickel, it’s a good idea to space the wraps apart so the heat is evenly distributed throughout the length of the wire. If there are any wraps in the coil that are touching each other, you’ve created a potential hotspot that can cause the coil to short. Because of this, many people have started twisting the wire before they make their coil. This allows for equal heat distribution (if done correctly) with tight wraps; however, it can be time consuming. For this reason some people consider Ni200 to be problematic, whereas other people swear by it to be the best metal for Temperature Control devices.

What is nichrome wire used for?

NiChrome is a resistance wire that is popularly used in most electric heating elements, hot-wire foam cutters as well as household appliances and tools. Due to its ability to rapidly heat quickly with minimal ramp-up time, NiChrome has become the wire of choice for a vast majority of e-cigarette coils that come out of China as well as the preferred wire for cloud-chasing builds . When compared to Kanthal, NiChrome has a lower melting temperature as well as a lower maximum operating temperature. Simply put, this means that the life expectancy of a NiChrome coil will typically be shorter than that of a Kanthal coil. Worry not, these temperatures are negligible as most devices will not exceed the melting point of either metal. In comparison, they both support similar features despite NiChrome heating up faster and Kanthal having a longer life expectancy. If you suffer from a Nickel allergy, you may want to consider Kanthal as it is made from Iron-Chromim-Aluminum and does not contain Nickel.

What wires can be used for temperature control?

Titanium, Ni200 (nickel) and Stainless Steel are the only wires that can be used (as of now) with Temperature Control. When wrapping wire, always refer to Ohm’s Law and build safely! Thanks for checking out Misthub’s Wire Tutorial, Vape On! Filed in: Tutorial , Vape Tanks , Vape Wire. Share:

Is titanium a resistance?

The resistance of Titanium is about double that of Ni200, allowing you to use considerably less wraps compared to Nickel when reaching your target resistance. A concern worth noting for Titanium is the fact that it can heat up to a point of ignition.

How does temperature control affect vaping?

The most important way in which temperature control changes the vaping experience is that it prevents dry hits. When an atomizer coil is dry, it becomes very hot in a fraction of a second. A temperature control device detects the rapid increase in temperature and immediately dials down the power to prevent damage to the coil or wick. With temperature control vaping, you won’t experience dry hits – at least not without plenty of warning. If the atomizer coil is dry or nearly dry, you’ll notice that your device’s vapor production drops significantly. When the coil is almost completely dry, your device will stop producing vapor. At that point, you’ll know that you need to drip or refill your tank. You’ll take care of the problem before a true dry hit occurs.

How Does Temperature Control Vaping Work?

One of the reasons why kanthal works so well for vaping is because its electrical resistance remains stable when its temperature changes. There are other coil materials, though – such as nickel and titanium – that do change in resistance as they become hotter.

It may be that at low temparatures these wires don't emit anything. I use temp control exclusively and keep wire temperature below 450 degrees.

I noticed a difference in taste between temp control and watts control but that may have only to do with how the wire heats, not the chemical makeup of the wire. Regardless, do any of these various wires leach any of their material into the vapor in quantities that bear on health concerns.

i prefer ss over ti but having problem with tc lately. kanthal is all great but you do miss the temp protection and no burn hits.

Why is temperature control important in vaping?

The main purpose of temperature control vaping is that it helps you avoid dry hits. Well, you can also do that yourself by vaping at a reasonable wattage and remembering to refill your tank. In that sense, temperature control vaping is an interesting gimmick, but it’s completely unnecessary for most people.

What is nichrome vaping?

Nichrome is a blend of nickel and chromium. The ratios of the two metals can vary; the most common nichrome alloy for vaping is Ni80, which consists of 80-percent nickel and 20-percent chromium.

What happens if you exceed the temperature limit on a mod?

Temperature control made it possible to set a temperature limit for your coil, and if the coil ever exceeded that limit, your mod would cut its power immediately to prevent a dry hit or burned wick. For temperature control technology to work, the electrical resistance of the coil needs to change when the coil heats up.

What material is used for RDA coils?

Nichrome is a common material for pre-wrapped RDA coils, but you won’t see it often in the world of sub-ohm tanks. When you’re shopping for sub-ohm tank coils, kanthal and stainless steel are the materials you’re most likely to see. Compared to kanthal, stainless steel has a slightly lower resistance and a slightly faster ramp-up time ...

Why do you need to replace a coil?

You’re replacing the coil because e-liquid residue has collected on the heating surface or because the wick is burned. The wire itself can last for an extremely long time.

Why is Kanthal used for heating elements?

The reason why kanthal works so well for heating elements is because it behaves in an extremely predictable fashion when an electrical current travels through it. Kanthal immediately forms a protective layer of aluminum oxide when it’s heated, allowing it to remain extremely durable in long-term use.

Can you use nickel coils in wattage mode?

Nickel and titanium coils are intended for temperature control vaping only and should not be used in wattage mode. Even if the resistance of a nickel or titanium coil is within your mod’s supported range, wattage-based vaping is intended only for a coil that remains relatively stable in resistance during use.
