One other thing you can do is place a shower cap over your room's smoke detector. Just remember to remove it when you're done, otherwise you run the risk of getting a fine from the FD.

I, somehow, haven't set one off yet even vaping openly in the room. However, there was a nightmare story on here a couple weeks ago about someone setting an alarm off, the entire hotel getting evacuated, firemen, and the whole shebang. So I will certainly be much more careful next time.

I was staying at a motel 6 the past weekend and I vaped in my hotel room the whole time when there was a smoke detector in the room and nothing happened. I even opened the door and windows to let some of the smoke out cause it was pretty smoky in there. I'd say your ok as long as you don't blow straight towards the smoke detector.

Considering we don't know what kind of smoke detector it is, it all depends on what you're comfortable. You have some good suggestions here, my favorite being the bathroom and shower cap, as long as you remember to remove it. If you don't want to risk it, I'm sure you can find a spot to hang out outside and have a vape.

I am always on travel for work and I have never set off a smoke detector. Even on vacation with me and the wife vaping. Hotels have regular smoke detectors, airplanes however have partical detectors and will go off with vape.
