You will get a film on anything non-porous, but not on anything pourous!

The water vapor that you exhale is molecularly different than smoke. Smoke has a tendency to linger and slowly dissipate, therefore sticking on walls or smelling far away from the source. Water vapor dissipates more rapidly and completely, and would have to have pretty much direct contact with a surface to effect it at all.
