While nicotine has been shown to have possible positive effects on ulcerative colitis, the risks of cigarette smoking are too great to recommend it as a serious solution. Vaping and the patch may be the two safest products since both can be controlled for dosage.

No difference was observed separately among those who were current or former smokers. Similarly, in those with UC, current e-cigarette use was not associated with the primary outcome (OR 1.05, 95% CI 0.33-3.39). Conclusion: Current e-cigarette use was not associated with worse outcomes among patients with IBD.May 17, 2022

I've had ulcerative colitis for almost 20 years now. It's been hard. I view myself as being lucky because I have kept my bowel and have access to good treatment.

I recall several members who were quite positive on the benefits of vaping - whether from nicotine or some other component. Sorry, but I can't recall their names. They have not been very active the past year or so. I wish I could be more helpful.

Welcome. I'm a 9yr colitis sufferer. I smoked 30yrs, quit with vaping and had my first flare 10mths later. I had tapered my nic to zero by then, so after reading about smoking helping, I took my nic back up to 12mg/ml. Hard to say even now if vaping helps.

I've loved my e-cigs since first discovering them nearly 2 years ago. 4 weeks ago after a colonoscopy I found out I had either Chron's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis. Today was my first medical follow-up after the colonoscopy and it turns out it is Ulcerative Colitis (UC).

I got UC after using e-cigs for 7 months. This was in May of 2012, and I'm still fighting it. Currently I'm taking a steroid, and another medication which helps me feel pretty good, and be able to function at about 70% of normal. I think my doctor is going to be trying something else when I see him next at the end of this month.

I seriously doubt that getting back to analogs would cure you, never heard that smoking cured anything anyways!

Smile n' shine Super Member ECF Veteran

I can't agree more with Martinc's point. It's not vaping, it's the quitting and lack of cigarette ingredients.
