Perhaps most surprising, given that smoking is a primary risk factor for pulmonary diseases, is that the most common used e-cigarette refill liquids are classified as respiratory irritants, allergens, inducers of asthmatic symptoms or potentially causing breathing difficulties if inhaled [52].
