The general rule is that the more a wire has been wrapped, the higher the resistance will be. Resistance is measured in Ohms by a device called an Ohmmeter and this gives its name to the two types of vaping, Plus Ohm and Sub Ohm.

Full Answer

Can I increase the wattage of my vape?

We would need to increase the wattage. The basic rule of thumb when it comes to vaping & resistance is "the lower the ohm, the higher the watt; the higher the ohm, the lower the watt." However, just like any rule, there are exceptions.

What resistance should I use for mouth to lung vaping?

People who prefer mouth to lung vaping are usually the ones who use standard resistances (above the 1 Ohm limit) and those who prefer direct lung inhale use sub-ohm resistances (below the 1 Ohm limit).

What is it like to vape sub ohm?

Also vapers have discovered that by twisting two or more types of wire together they can create complex coils like 'twisted', 'claptons', 'fused claptons' and 'alien claptons' which in terms give an even better flavor. Sub ohm vaping can be very rewarding, but at the same time it has a few downsides.

What do the voltages mean when it comes to vaping?

To vape safely you need to understand a couple
of basics about electricity You will come across the terms VOLTS, Current,
AMPS, Resistance, OHMS, Power and WATTS. In this guide we explain what these mean in terms of vaping. Typically, a fully charged battery will read
that it has around 4.2V – 4.2volts This can be understood as the amount of

Is it better to have higher or lower ohms on a vape?

Lower resistance coils produce more flavour, vapour and heat at a lower voltage than higher ohm coils because they use more watts. For example, if you have a 1.8ohm coil running on 3.7 volts you'll get an output of around 7.3 watts.

How do I lower the resistance on my vape?

To lower the resistance of your coil, you can use a thicker wire. If you apply the same power to two wires of the same length but different thickness, the thicker wire will heat up more slowly. To reach a similar temperature in the same time with a lower resistance coil (thicker wire), you need to provide more power.

What gauge wire is best for vaping?

Kanthal has been the choice of most vapers for a longer time, due to its ease of use and higher resistance. Mouth to lung vapers appreciate their higher builds, and a 26-28 gauge Kanthal wire is always dependable—and hard to swap for anything else.

Is the higher the resistance the better the coil?

The benefits of a higher resistance coil are much more steady battery use, a cooler vape and less vapour. This of course is all a matter of preference. If you're keen on big clouds then you can forgive draining battery life (or just keep a few spares on you).

What's the difference between 0.6 and 1.2 ohm coil?

If you're looking for larger clouds, then It's recommend to use the 0.6ohm PockeX coil. When used with high VG e-liquid that's 60% VG or higher, you'll experience large clouds and clear flavour. One the other hand, new vapers and those who prefer discreet levels of cloud will prefer the 1.2 Ohm PockeX coil.

How many ohms should my vape be?

The standard or regular level of ohm when it comes to vaping and your clearomizer is between 2.4 and 2.8. This is by far the most common ohm range chosen by those looking for replacement coils, with the most commonly chosen being 2.5. This standard level tends to offer the most consistent level for your vape.

Which is thicker 26g or 28g?

As a rule of a thumb, the higher the value of the gauge, the thinner the wire is. As an example, a 28 gauge wire will be thinner than a 26 gauge wire, but thicker than a 30 gauge wire. In addition, a thicker wire will have a lower resistance while a thinner wire will have a higher resistance.

What wire is best for flavor?

Stainless steel, on the other hand, heats up faster, lasts longer, and delivers better flavor than kanthal. While there's nothing wrong with using nickel, nichrome, or titanium coils, just be sure you know what you're doing first.

What coil is best for flavor?

The best ones to go for flavour wise are clapton, titanium (if you prefer vaping with TC mode) or an Alien coil. The sweet spot for getting a balance of vapour and flavour is around 0.3ohms. Depending on your coil choice you'll want to up the wattage from anywhere between 50 and 100 watts.

Do lower ohm coils burn out faster?

Sub-ohm coils heat up much quicker than those with a higher resistance. If your e-liquid has a thinner consistency then the atomizer head can vaporize it too quickly, causing premature burning.

What's the difference between 0.2 and 0.4 ohm coil?

The lower resistance 0.2 ohm coils allow higher wattage to be used. This said, in this case, the 0.4 ohm coils give much better flavour with the Cleito tank than the 0.2 ohm coils.

What's the difference between 0.6 and 1.4 coil?

The 0.6Ω mesh coil is specially designed for sub-ohm vaping, it has a large mesh inside, with which you can get faster heating process and massive vapour clouds; and the 1.4Ω regular coil is designed for MTL vaping, you can enjoy throat hit with it.

What causes low resistance on a vape?

This typically happens because the coil isn't screwed on properly, there's an issue with the 510 connection, defective or bad coil, etc. The atomizer low warning means the resistance of coils is too low for the mod being used. The atomizer short warning on your mod displays when the coil is causing a short-circuit.

What is resistance in a vape?

Atomizer resistance is a vaping-related term commonly known as 'electrical resistance'. It describes how much opposition an object has to electrical current and is measured in 'ohms'.

What does resistance range mean on a vape?

Resistance (Ohm, Ω) The lower the resistance of your atomizer, the larger the amount of current flowing through it. If you increase resistance, the atomizer receives less current.

What does low ohms mean on a vape?

Simply put, ohms is a measure of electrical resistance or how freely electricity is able to travel. Lower ohms will produce more heat and this will affect vapor production, throat hit, temperature of vapor and flavor. At an experiential level, LOWER OHMS: Will run hotter, producing a warmer vapor.

Why do we use SS?

The argument for SS is we cook with it and it has been used in medical inhalation equipment for atleast 30 years now and there isnt too much in the dark about it, in the vaping perspective it may be new but in the time its been used for heating and inhalation of liquids it is well documented by pharmacology. Why do we not use other metals as cookware? This is the biggest argument when thinking of trying new wire, if its not safe or was not deemed safe to cook on would you use it to vape with?

What is the B+ material for vaping?

Kanthal (Iron-Chromium-Aluminum) - 88 (B+). Kanthal was the second material used for resistance wire by vapers with good reason. Not only was it tougher than nichrome, but for those who were sensitive to nickel this was a perfect alternative. The safety concerns are two fold.

What is nichrome 65?

NiChrome (Nickle-Chromium w/ some trace elements possible like iron) - 65 (D). Not only was it the first material vapers used for resistance wire, was the first documented material used for creating heat through electrical resistance back in 1905. It gets a very low grade on safety because it combines two metals with known issues.

What is SS in vaping?

SS has been used in medical procedures for years, though only recently has found its way into vaping coils. This is also the type of steel used in cookware. Why? Because it has a very high melting point (2400-2750 degrees F), and the questionable alloys in the steel (nickel being the biggest of concern) also require a high amount of heat (2200-2300 degrees F) before they begin to leach. I don’t know any mainstream vaping device that can reach those levels. Stainless Steel also brings a few added bonuses to the table. 304, 316, and 317 (welding wire, also known as GPlat in the community) contains enough nickel so where it can be used in a temperature controlled device. The only downside is it can be a bit tough to work with as it’s a little stiffer than any of the other metals on this list save titanium.

Is Kanthal wire good for vaping?

Kanthal D is usually used for small home and small-scale applications. Kanthal D would actually be more suitable for vaping due to the reduced Aluminum Content in it.

Why is nickel a low grade?

It gets a very low grade on safety because it combines two metals with known issues. Nickel is a known carcinogen with other issues (will get to it), and as mentioned early Chromium Hexavalent is as well.

Is vaping a new concept?

in the vaping perspective it may be new but in the time its been used for heating and inhalation of liquids it is well documented by pharmacology.

For me it usually means how much Voltage I can pump, using that particular chart which Trinithophenol posted + what kind of Ohms of cartos/atties I buy. I also understand that using different Ohms of cartos/ atties + different sets of Voltages may result in warmer or cooler vapes too (Though I may be wrong). Hope this is not too confusing!

Cloudhopper Full Member

Lower resistance = more wattage being fired by the atomizer = hotter vapor and more vapor production (voltage divided by resistance = amperage. Volts times amperage = watts). Here is a useful youtube video that explains this in more detail.

Actually the ohm law is playing the role of good vape. BUT, with dual coils cartos it's a bit different, 1.5ohm dual coils are using 2 coils rated @ 3ohm.

How much nicotine is lethal?

Myer examined existing literature and stated, “ The literature reports on fatal nicotine intoxications suggest that the lower limit of lethal nicotine blood concentrations is about 2 mg/L, corresponding to 4 mg/L plasma, a concentration that is around 20-fold higher than that caused by intake of 60 mg nicotine. “

Is vaping good for you?

While vaping isn’t ‘Good’ for you, it’s understood to be a less harmful way to deliver nicotine to the user. I was a smoker for over thirty years and tried quitting a number of times only to light up again at some point.

Is vaping harmful?

Nicotine via vaping is not going to be harmful in the slightest, and this includes addiction. That said, we really should examine what lies behind the ‘Great Nicotine Myth.’

Is nicotine as addictive as heroin?

But, there is addiction. Nicotine is as addictive as, say, heroin. And, once again, it is this conflation with smoking that provides the evidence for this.

Is nicotine dangerous?

It is subtle, but when these techniques are used over and over for year after year, the message sticks. Nicotine is smoking and smoking is deadly dangerous. Nicotine = smoking.

Does nicotine cause illness?

Although the above image is accompanied with text which clearly states that the danger comes from smoking, and that the connection with nicotine is that nicotine leads to addiction, which in turn, encourages smoking, which in its turn, causes illnesses, it is not the impression that the casual readers’ get when they look at the image which is screaming at the page at them. In any case the tests measure continine, not nicotine. But the more you can say, ‘nicotine,’ the more it becomes conflated with smoking.

Is nicotine lethal?

The lethal dose of pure nicotine is also difficult to determine, because it easily decomposes a bit and, on the other hand, mostly contains more or less water; however, in accordance with the severe symptoms evoked in several experimenters by 0.002–0.004 g it is certainly not going to be higher than 0.06 g.

How low can coils go?

The coils today can go as low as 0.15 Ohms (in the case of Kanthal) and there are mods out there that can fire even lower so technology is no longer a problem. Also vapers have discovered that by twisting two or more types of wire together they can create complex coils like 'twisted', 'claptons', 'fused claptons' and 'alien claptons' which in terms give an even better flavor.

What starter kit comes with coils?

On some of these devices you can also experiment with sub ohm coils, which are either included in the box as spares or can be bought separately.

What resistances do you use for vaping?

People who prefer mouth to lung vaping are usually the ones who use standard resistances (above the 1 Ohm limit) and those who prefer direct lung inhale use sub-ohm resistances (below the 1 Ohm limit).

Why do you need a sub ohm coil?

Because it vaporizes a lot more e-liquid, together with the big clouds, it also delivers a bigger quantity of nicotine. This is why, in most cases, if you're used to vaping on 12mg for instance, switching to a sub ohm coil directly implies lowering the concentration to 6mg or even 3mg. Taking a 12mg puff on a 0.3 Ohm RDA could make you feel very light headed so if it doesn't feel right, go for a lower concentration.

Why are above ohm vapes so popular?

The reason for which above ohm resistances remain popular with mouth to lung vaping is due to the restrictive draw these devices can offer and the similarities with actual cigarettes.

What is temperature control on a mod?

Many of the newer generation mods offer a feature called 'temperature control', which works with Nickel or Titanium coils and gives the user the option to set a desired valued between 200 – 600F. These coils generally have a sub ohm resistances and fire as low as 0.05 Ohms. Because the user can set a desired vape temperature, it has total control on how cool or warm he or she wants the vapor to be, and the feature also prevents dry hits.

What is an ohm in vaping?

What is an Ohm. First of all, ohms represent a unit of measurement for resistance, and when it comes to vaping they translate to how difficult is for the electrical current from the battery to pass through the heating coil. The lower the resistance, the faster a coil heats up to a certain temperature and controlling this value is key in delivering ...

Hi, I just got a Eleaf istick TC100W with a kangertech subtank mini, and while i vape the resistance keeps going up. It should be around .70, but will go up to around .83 with some use. If i let it sit for a bit and unscrew the atomizer and screw it back in, it will go back down to .70. Is this normal??

Uioer New Member

I'm using a rebuild in the kangertech at the moment, but it was happening with factory replaceable heads too. The resistance would also read wrong. My .5 coil read .71, and my 1.2 read 1.62.

If it's Kanthal coils then no, it isn't perfectly normal. More likely the mod won't even have enough sensitivity to measure such a small resistance change (0.00002 TCR value). If it's TC wire then yes the resistance will go up and some mods will show the rising resistance (some will continue to show the locked resistance).

stols001 Moved On ECF Veteran

Yeah, to me that much of a resistance jump (if you are using Kanthal, which I would think you would be with the drop in coils) doesn't sound right to me. I'd take the tank apart, check the seals, the posts, try it on another mod (if you have one) to see if it's the tank or the mod causing issues.
