My mother had white patches in her mouth and they said it was thrush. Babies get it. Thrush is a yeast infection, and can be caused by taking antibiotics and also by a inbalance of bacteria.

This is called leukopkalia, which is a pre-malignant lesion. It most likely will turn into cancer if you continue to smoke as it is from the tobacco and other chemicals in the cigarette. Not the nicotine though.....

There is about a 4% chance of these lesions becoming cancer for smokers. It doesn't seem to be related to nicotine alone, as the cancer risk from the lesions is much less in smokeless tobacco users - so that should translate to similar risk with electronic cigarettes.
