Hi Dana and welcome! It's not unusual for a smokers cough to take several months to resolve. You also typically cough more when you are early in vaping as the lining of your airways start working properly as clearing all the secretions and crap that accumulated over 30 years of smoking.

I had the same problem when I first started using tanks. It's very VERY important to clean your gear regularly. Tanks whenever you swap out the wick and drip tips at least once a day. I keep a pair of small PET spray bottles on my desk, one with alcohol and one with purified water for rinsing, on my desk to remind me.
